The Science of Beverage Refinement

NOREG was developed from a simple observation:
Many people appreciate wine, cocktails, beer and spirits, yet experience reactions that can affect the overall experience.
This observation led to years of research into naturally occurring compounds formed during fermentation, ageing and production. The result was the development of NOREG, a beverage refinement technology designed to selectively reduce specific naturally occurring compounds while preserving beverage character.

Why Noreg exists

The finest beverages in the world are created through craftsmanship, tradition and intention.
NOREG was never developed to change those beverages.
It was developed to preserve them.
By selectively reducing certain naturally occurring compounds, NOREG helps preserve the intended beverage experience without altering alcohol content, adding ingredients to the drink or changing the beverage's pH.
Nothing is consumed.
Nothing is added.
The beverage remains the beverage.
The experience is refined.

Years of research

The development of NOREG has involved:

  • 3+ years of research and development
  • 9 laboratory testing phases
  • 16+ beverage categories tested
  • Hundreds of laboratory analyses
  • Independent third-party testing

*Research and validation have been conducted through multiple stages of formulation refinement, compound analysis and beverage-specific testing.

What NOREG refines

During fermentation, ageing and production, alcoholic beverages naturally develop a variety of compounds.
NOREG is designed to selectively reduce specific compounds while preserving the character of the beverage.

Why these compounds matter

The compounds listed above occur naturally during fermentation, ageing and production.
Scientific literature has associated these compounds with reactions such as:

  • Headaches
  • Flushing
  • Fatigue
  • Brain fog
  • Next-day discomfort

*NOREG is designed to selectively reduce these compounds while preserving the intended character of the beverage.

Laboratory validation

NOREG has undergone independent testing through Vanguard Laboratory in Olympia, Washington.
Vanguard Laboratory operates under ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accreditation standards.
Testing has included:
Independent laboratory validation remains a core part of the NOREG development process.

  • Compound reduction analysis
  • Beverage-specific validation
  • Comparative testing across multiple beverage categories
  • Repeated phase testing and refinement

*Independent laboratory validation remains a core part of the NOREG development process.

Materials

NOREG utilizes carefully selected materials including:

  • Activated Charcoal
  • Marine Chitosan*
  • Ion Exchange Resins
  • Clinoptilolite Zeolite

*Marine chitosan is sourced from independently tested suppliers with rigorous allergen control protocols.

Chitosan & allergen safety

NOREG's marine chitosan is sourced from Tidal Vision Products, Inc. (Bellingham, WA).
Every production batch undergoes independent third-party allergen testing using the AgraQuant® Crustacea ELISA kit.
Supplier specifications require non-detectable tropomyosin in finished material.
This process helps ensure a high level of allergen safety and quality control.

What happens to the drink

One of the most common questions is simple:
"What happens to the beverage itself?"
The answer: The beverage remains fundamentally unchanged.
NOREG does not add ingredients to the beverage.
NOREG does not increase or decrease alcohol content.
NOREG does not alter beverage pH.
NOREG is removed before serving.
The objective is simple: Preserve the beverage. Refine the experience.

How NOREG works

  • The beverage is poured
  • The NOREG sachet is placed directly into the beverage
  • Selected naturally occurring compounds are reduced
  • The sachet is removed
  • The beverage is served

*Nothing is consumed from the sachet itself. Nothing remains in the beverage.

Real world validation

Laboratory validation is only one part of the development process. Real-world usage provides an additional layer of insight. Today, NOREG has been used in more than 26,000 beverages across 35 countries.

  • 26,000+ beverages refined
  • 35 countries reached

From private dining experiences and wine tastings to hospitality environments, ongoing usage continues to inform product refinement and development.

Scientific report

NOREG's scientific report was published in January 2025. The report includes:

  • 97 scientific references
  • Extensive compound research
  • Beverage-specific analysis
  • Laboratory findings
  • Mechanism reviews

Conclusion

The objective has never been to change wine, cocktails, beer or spirits.
It has always been to better understand them.
Through research, laboratory validation and ongoing development, NOREG continues to advance a new category focused on one principle:
Preserving the intended beverage experience while selectively reducing specific naturally occurring compounds. That principle remains at the core of Beverage Refinement.
